Turpel-Lafond has been under the microscope for claiming to be a treaty status Cree Indian in the past butinto a white family, Leo reports.Article content According to a 2018 copy of Turpel-Lafond’s CV, honorary degrees from 10 post-secondary institutions are listed, including the University of Regina and the First Nations University of Canada.

“While the University recognizes that Turpel-Lafond has been a strong advocate for Indigenous rights and child welfare, her accomplishments are outweighed by the harm inflicted upon Indigenous academics, peoples and communities when non-Indigenous people misrepresent their Indigenous ancestry,” the university’s statement added.
