Alana Uriell speaks of the Aviara Golf Club in near reverential tones.
“This has become a second home to me … this is my sanctuary,” Uriell said Friday after completing her second round and making the cut in the LPGA’s JTBC Classic being played on the 6,600-yard course that beautifully parallels the eastern shore of the Batiquitos Lagoon.
“I had three straight bogeys starting my back nine,” said Uriell, the lone player from San Diego County in the 144-women field. “I continued the game. And I found such a helpful community that consoled me when I was missing a parent. I have this community of people who have adopted me — new uncles, new aunts, new mothers. I have so much to thank for that because losing a parent can be so detrimental in my life.”
