Published: Jul. 15, 2022, 9:34 a.m.

After the men held off Italy for the World Games gold medal, the women suffered a defeat stunning not necessarily by the result but the margin. Mexico ended the US women’s flag football reign with a 39-6 win that was looking like a shutout until a touchdown with 4:23 left. An interception by James Calhoun with 8:12 to play ended a string of five touchdowns in five Italian possessions. A touchdown catch by Bruce Mapp on the next play put the game out of hand, 46-30.

US quarterback Darrell Doucette finished 10-for-12 with 190 yards, four touchdowns with one interception. It was all Mexico after the United States had a first-play touchdown called back on a penalty. A quick touchdown and safety made it 8-0 Mexico as the US threw three first-half interceptions.
