The new US Army radar system guided a Standard Missile-6 to intercept a target during Valiant Shield 24 in the Indo-Pacific.

The new Army radar system guided a US Navy Standard Missile -6 to intercept a target during Valiant Shield 24 in the Indo-Pacific.

During the test involving both physical hardware and simulation, the Army’s LTAMDS simulator provided threat tracking data and operational SM-6 engagement control software to the Integrated Battle Command System , developed by Northrop Grumman. According to Tom Laliberty, president of land and air defense systems at Raytheon, the test also “confirms a viable option” for US Indo-Pacific Command.

Furthermore, the Army is incorporating the SM-6 and Raytheon-built Tomahawk missiles with a vertical launch system for its Mid-Range Capability weapon. This rapidly developed system fits between the Precision Strike Munition, designed for targets over 500 kilometers away, and the ground-launched hypersonic missiles in the Army’s fires portfolio.LTAMDS will be the radar for the Army’s future Integrated Air and Missile Defense system.
