The Trojans turn to the Arkansas Razorbacks coach after Andy Enfield left for SMU after 11 seasons
Eric Musselman, seen as head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks during a game against Kansas in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on March 18, 2023, in Des Moines, Iowa, has reportedly agreed to become the next USC men’s basketball coach. LOS ANGELES — The Andy Enfield era had run its course at USC, a long-mystifying men’s basketball program suddenly staring at a near-completely-blank canvas entering the Big Ten.
“My family and I couldn’t be more excited for this incredible opportunity at USC,” Musselman said in a statement upon his hire. “I am grateful to President Folt and Jen Cohen for the chance to lead the men’s basketball program at such a world-class university with a rich tradition of success.” When he arrived to Nevada in 2015, the Wolf Pack were coming off a 9-22 season and three years of futility in the Mountain West; they went 24-14 in Musselman’s first season, and became an NCAA Tournament perennial in his tenure. When he arrived to Arkansas in 2019, the Razorbacks hadn’t advanced past the second round in March for more than two decades; within a couple years, they reached back-to-back Elite Eights under Musselman.
“His track record of building winning programs and his unwavering commitment to a culture of excellence make him the perfect fit for USC,” Cohen said of Musselman in a statement. “Eric displays heart, boldness, resiliency, and everything that it means to be a Trojan. He inspires togetherness and will help build and grow the program’s connectivity within the Trojan community.”
