The Lakers star said at Monday’s media day that Trojans freshman had begun post-surgery rehab.

Lakers star LeBron James celebrates with his son, Bronny James, left, after scoring to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer during the third quarter of a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night at Crypto.com Arena.

“We anticipate him being a very valuable part of our basketball team,” Enfield said last Monday. “But that’ll be all sorted out.” USC’s Vincent Iwuchukwu, who suffered a cardiac arrest in a five-on-five practice just the same time a year ago,to play for the Trojans. A James family spokesperson said in a late-August statement that James’ heart attack was likely caused by a congenital heart defect. According to Dr. Jonathan Drezner, director of the University of Washington’s center for sports cardiology, some congenital anomalies are correctable by surgery, others by non-invasive percutaneous intervention.

The recovery timeline for surgery, Drezner said as an expert not involved with James’ treatment, would depend on the actual surgery but “may be about three months,” also requiring repeat testing and a progressive exercise plan. It’s now been a little over two monthsif his recovery timeline held somewhat consistent with Drezner’s comments, it’s possible James could return sometime during Pac-12 play in January.
