The Utah System of Higher Education released the official enrollment numbers for Utah Tech University and Southern Utah University. Both universities show an in
crease in enrollment for the Fall 2024 semester.
This freshman class is the first to be admitted since the Supreme Court’s 2023 ruling that banned Affirmative Action.Dilley said that Utah Tech is an open-enrollment school and their admissions process was unchanged by the Supreme Court’s decision that race-conscious admissions programs are unconstitutional.
Another change to college campuses this school year is the implementation of House Bill 261, or the Equal Opportunities Initiatives. This bill was passed in January of 2024 but went into effect on July first. “The passing of HB261 has negatively impacted the Indigenous Students Organization and other student unions and organizations on campus. It affects our monetary ability to hold events. It impacted the space where we meet,” said Runs Through.
