UTSA exploring range of options to replace lost production of injured wideout De’Corian Clark
SAN ANTONIO, TX - OCTOBER 22: Kevorian Barnes #31 of the UTSA Roadrunners leaps over North Texas Mean Green defender in the second half at the Alamodome on October 22, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas. Seeing UTSA wideout De’Corian Clark down injured on UAB’s sideline, Joshua Cephus’ first reaction Saturday was to feel a bit nervous, but he assumed the situation wasn’t too dire.
UTSA this week confirmed what many watching the gruesome injury expected: Clark will be out for the rest of the year with a torn ACL that required surgery Tuesday. In his absence, the Roadrunners will have to lean on the running game and the rest of the receivers to make up for the lost production, hitting yet another injury hurdle amid a season of serious blows.
Senior Tykee Ogle-Kellogg was next in line for the job Saturday at UAB, notching a 2-yard touchdown grab in overtime for just his second reception of the season. The Roadrunners also have started to lean on their running game more heavily behind improving offensive line health, keeping the ball on the ground at the two highest rates of the season the past two games.
Traylor described the 5-9, 215-pound Barnes as a “bowling ball” of speed, power and agility. Barnes has also proven himself as a “team guy,” Traylor said, taking to Twitter this week to thank Brady for his guidance after Brady amplified a post suggesting Barnes was UTSA’s best running back.
