The WRX has been a performance staple for Subaru since the 1990s. While the times have changed, the recipe—a punchy turbocharged engine, all-wheel drive, and a heavy dose of rally inspiration—hasn't with the 2022 model.Many other parts of the sedan have changed, though. The WRX now shares a platform with two decidedly non-performance vehicles, the Subaru Outback and Forester. We also evaluated the WRX at the track at M1 Concourse near Detroit, where the sedan's handling quickly built confidence. In brief, this WRX posted a slightly quicker quarter-mile result than the last model we tested, despite being heavier. While the 60-mph acceleration was a few tenths of a second slower, that's because the lower redline requires a shift to third gear to reach that speed.
