Water problems plaguing South Suburban Dixmoor will soon get the repairs it needs to prevent future issues.Last year, water was shut off there for more than two weeks after
– meaning people living there couldn't shower, cook, or wash dishes or laundry. The crisis also led to school cancellations.$1.5 million of the funding comes from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The other $500,000 comes from Cook County. "We were able to secure funding for water infrastructure project that will ensure the residents of Dixmoor won't have to worry about being without water," said Rep. Robin Kelly .
In a statement, Village President Fitzgerald Roberts said the funding was a"significant development for Dixmoor." The new project will help increase water flow throughout the village by enabling the cut and cap the nine water lines buried 30 feet under I-57. © 2022 CBS Broadcasting Inc.
