Volunteer who whisked dog away from Harrisburg shelter won’t be charged
A protester caught this image of Pursuit leaving the shelter in the back of a volunteer's car Monday morning, Feb. 13, 2023. A volunteer who whisked a dog away from a Harrisburg shelter before it could be euthanized will not be charged, District Attorney Fran Chardo said Wednesday.
At least three local rescue groups had offered to take the dog, thousands of people signed a petition and joined a Facebook support group, and a state senator had asked for the killing to be delayed. When the protest was wrapping up, the volunteer took the dog out of the shelter and put him in the back seat of her car as television cameras and cell phones were recording from across the street to capture the protest. The volunteer waited for police to arrive and approach her car. She spoke with them and provided her name and contact information before driving away with Pursuit happily looking out her back window.
