With China's spy balloon incursion and an Air Force general’s warning of a fast-coming global clash, more Americans now believe that war with China is in the cards, and they think that President Joe Biden's bumbling of relations has something to do with it.
In the latest Rasmussen Reports survey, 48% now say that it is somewhat to “very” likely that America will go to war with the communist nation in the next five years. Just 38% said that war isn’t likely, and the rest don’t know.An equal amount said that China is the “enemy” of the United States, though a large 37% said that it is somewhere in between a foe and an ally.
And after a week of watching a spy balloon cross the U.S. before being shot down, voters are shaking their heads over Biden. Rasmussen found that 59% of voters believe that the president has done a fair-to-poor job of handling U.S.-China relations, with 47% grading him “poor.”The survey reported increases in the public’s negative view of China and Biden’s handling of America's relationship with China.
“The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 48% of Likely U.S. Voters believe China is an enemy of the United States — up from 41% in November,” read the poll analysis. “Belief that China is a U.S. ally is highly correlated with approval of Biden’s policy toward China. Among voters who think China is an ally to the United States, 68% believe Biden is doing a good or excellent job of handling issues related to China. By contrast, among voters who view China as a U.S. enemy, 70% rate Biden as doing a poor job of handling China-related issues,” added Rasmussen.
