Warren Township voters will be voting on whether to increase their property taxes during the May primary election this year after the school board approved an increase to its operating referendum rate Wednesday night.increase the district’s current referendum rate
“With ESSER dollars expiring, it is going to leave us with some difficult decisions,” Warren Township Superintendent Tim Hanson told IndyStar after the meeting. “Under our current referendum, we would not be able to sustain a lot of those programs.”Transportation: $3 millionStudent and staff technology: $1.5 millionStudent learning, K-12 college and career readiness and K-12 enrichment: $2.1 million.
To pay for the day-to-day costs of running schools and educating students, districts depend on the sales and income tax dollars that the state awards on a per-pupil basis — unless voters agree to raise their own property taxes above the state-imposed cap.
