Elizabeth Warren urged by National Organization for Women not to endorse Bernie Sanders, told he has 'done next to nothing for women'
The National Organization for Women has urged Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren not to endorse Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in the 2020 Democratic race.
Her silence comes as moderate Democratic contenders who have dropped out of the race, including former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar and former South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg, have promptly thrown their weight behind fellow moderate former Vice President Joe Biden. While many progressives will look to Warren to add weight to Sanders' campaign, NOW appears to have sided clearly with Biden in what is quickly looking to become a two-man race.
"We think that our constituents, our members, will not necessarily think of Sanders as the best choice," the NOW chief continued. Democratic presidential candidate Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren announces the suspension of her presidential campaign in front of her Cambridge, Massachusetts home on March 5, 2020. Warren has yet to endorse one of her former rivals. While Biden's record with VAWA is clear, with the former Vice President urging lawmakers to renew the legislation just last year, Van Pelt asserted that"Sanders doesn't have a record.
