We chat with Warrior stars Dianne Doan, Olivia Cheng, and Hoon Lee about how each of their characters' relationships have changed going into season 3 of the StreamOnMax series:
Set in San Francisco during the Tong Wars in the 1870s, Warrior follows Ah Sahm, a martial arts prodigy. He travels to America in search of his sister but is sold to one of the most powerful Tongs in Chinatown, pulling him into a growing conflict. Season 3 picks up after the race riots that hit Chinatown. Ah Sahm continues to struggle with his new status as a local legend and with secrets threatening his place in the Tong.
Screen Rant spoke with Dianne Doan, Olivia Cheng, and Hoon Lee about Warrior season 3. Doan teases Mai Ling and Ah Sahm's relationship going into season 3 after her revelation to Young Jun. Cheng discusses Ah Toy's relationship with Nellie and how Lee explains how Chao's decisions will weigh on him in season 3.
Olivia, we see Ah Toy's relationship with Nellie play out at the end of season 2, and we see it a lot more in season 2. Does Ah Toy look at Nellie kind of as a way out of Chinatown and finally a chance to lay the sword down? Hoon Lee: Yeah. There's very few people in the world that Chao doesn't interact with, which is my greatest joy in playing him, is there's so many opportunities to work with these cast members that I respect and love. Tom, who plays Lee, he happens to be one of my closer friends in the cast, and it's such a unique opportunity, because they're set up from the start of the series as sort of opposites in many ways.
Dianne Doan: Well, first off, can I just say how big of a fan I am of Mark, and finding out that he was joining the show, I was, again, floored. Same feeling I had when I heard I would be working with Dustin Nguyen. I grew up watching Mark, and so he really did end up being just a dream of a man. The kindest soul, always wants to talk art, is the most supportive actor and also person.
Oh, that's interesting. Now, Hoon, let me ask you this, because I'm going to talk a little bit about Chao kind of giving up his daughter, Hannah, last season. How much does that weigh on him and how much do we see that affect him in season 3?
