As ever, it’s impossible to know where propaganda and a furiously held sense of pride end and delusion begins. And with the Warriors just one year removed from winning a championship, you could obviously give them the benefit of the doubt, had this season not beenfrom the opening tip. Anything should be on the table, because we are in at least Year 4 of Do Everything You Can to Maximize Steph Curry’s Twilight Years.
Finding a new shooting guard won’t be easy. The most obvious option, Jordan Poole, gave even less than Thompson against the Lakers. It shouldn’t be him. Ideally, it would be a bigger guard who can defend, one that can play alongside Curry and hopefully make open shots — but again, the Warriors are walking a real tightrope with the restrictions of the new CBA here. Good thing there’s not a strong chance a first-time general manager will be in charge.
Andrew Wiggins, whose success in Golden State has been attributed to not being the “No. 1 guy,” is going to have to inch forward and fully embrace being the “No. 2 guy” this next season. We love Klay. Klay is loved. But if he’s staying, and I hope he is, he’s going to need to lean into a decreased and hopefully more efficient role off the bench.
