A Washington state legislator has died weeks after saying he tested positive for the coronavirus while in El Salvador. Sen. Doug Ericksen's cause of death wasn't immediately released. He was an outspoken critic of the state's COVID-19 emergency orders.

Ericksen died Friday, Dec. 17, 2021, after saying in November that he tested positive for COVID-19, although his cause of death was not immediately confirmed on Saturday. He was 52. Ericksen’s death Friday came weeks after he said he had tested positive for the coronavirus while in El Salvador, though his cause of death wasn’t immediately released.

In a message to state House and Senate members, Ericksen asked for advice on how to receive monoclonal antibodies, which were not available in the Latin American nation.
