The inauguration ceremony will include a speech from the new Arizona governor that could help set the tone on how she will lead a divided government.
The inauguration ceremony for Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs and four other statewide officials starts at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
Hobbs will give inaugural remarks in her first high-profile public appearance since she was sworn in Monday. She is Arizona's 24th governor and its fifth female leader, more than in any other state. Her Thursday speech, and a State of the State address on Jan. 9, could set the tone for how she will lead the state and work with a Republican-controlled Legislature.
Republican Mine Inspector Paul Marsh, the other statewide official sworn in Monday, will not be onstage. Marsh said that's because"simply, I was not invited." Marsh said he objected to the decision, to no avail, and would attend the ceremony as a VIP guest instead.
