Georgia Republican RepMTG had a verbal clash with CNN's chief domestic correspondent, Acosta, on Thursday outside the U.S. Capitol, where Greene had just given a press conference on free speech and social media.
"You know, Jim, you have a show, and, in all fairness, you try to present this image of me to your viewers, and it's just really not correct," Greene told Acosta.Acosta was trying to get the congresswoman to comment on whether or not she had asked former President Donald Trump to declare martial law in the wake of the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, according to footage of the encounter posted to social media.
"You're just another one of those liars on television," she said. “And people hate it. They can't stand the liars on television." Greene then challenged Acosta to read the actual text, whereupon Acosta whipped out his phone to pull it up. "'In our private chat, with only members, several are saying that the only way to save our Republic is for Trump to call for Marshall law.' 'Martial' was misspelled," Acosta said, reading the message, as Greene told him to"keep going."Greene then said the"supposed text" may not even be hers.
The congresswoman subsequently repeated that Acosta is a liar and an accuser and said she was being harassed and lied about.
