Alex Morgan sits in San Diego Wave FC's tie with Louisville in Kentucky
Alex Morgan sat out Friday’s NWSL match for what Wave coach Casey Stoney called precautionary reasons.
Shaw’s growth is the Wave’s most impressive and perhaps more important development through the season’s first half. With goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan, defender Naomi Girma and forward Makenzy Doniak in sharp form as well, the Wave arrive at the season’s midway point atop the 12-team National Women’s Soccer League’s standings with 20 points, one point ahead of defending champion Portland and one point behind the Wave’s 11-game pace last year.
Shaw, who turned professional last June, is giving the Wave diversified playmaking that it often lacked season in support of Morgan.
