“Despite reducing hours and investing in additional operational measures, continued safety and security challenges and business factors have made it increasingly difficult to remain open in these two locations,” Wawa spokeswoman Lori Bruce toldThe two stores are in Center City, at 12th and Market Streets and 19th and Market. The Inquirer reported workers from these stores will be offered employment at other locations.
There were 42 incidents around the Wawa at 19th and Market. Thirty-four of those were theft reports, according to an Inquirer analysis of city crime data. City police were called Sept. 25 to a Wawa in Northeast Philadelphia because of about 100 teenagers stealing and breaking merchandise, according toFOX 29 reported the teens came from a nearby skating rink and were causing “chaos” for the people in the store.
