We all can agree on the need to respect one another: Letter to the Editor

Letter to the Editor: 'I think that to truly be an open society, we need to be humble and realize humanity is what it is, and not just what we want it to be,' writes Frank Greywitt.

To me, the core of what they said is that we need to respect other people. I think Ted Diadiun was saying that while he will respect transgender people and treat them as they wish, he has trouble understanding and agreeing. Maple Buescher seemed to position her argument on being transgender as part of being human, and she backed that up with multicultural examples.

I think that to truly be an open society, we need to be humble and realize humanity is what it is, and not just what we want it to be. This spectrum of reality is what makes us human, and we do need to respect each other, even if we don’t completely understand or agree with other opinions. This includes respecting the humanity of people who identify themselves as transgender, and the humanity of those with more of a conservative perspective.
