'We don't have enough places': Texas State Parks to add six new locations in next 15 years

The new spots will be near Boerne, Fort Worth, Presidio, Houston, Del Rio and Port...

Chinati Mountains State Natural Area near Big Bend Ranch State Park. The park is one of six new locations Texas Parks and Wildlife is adding over the next 15 years.With most of Texas land in private hands, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department faces a major hurdle in opening new parks.

"There is a need to provide more recreational opportunities for the growing population of Texas," Rodney Franklin, director of Texas State Parks, said in apassage of Proposition 5 The Albert and Bessie Kronkosky State Natural Area, the closest property to San Antonio to be turned into a state park in the coming years, sits just 45 miles northwest of the Alamo City. The property was acquired by TPWD in 2011 and spans 3,757 acres. The park"boasts classic Hill Country terrain," according to TPWD officials,"and a variety of native plants and animals."
