More than 8 in 10 WebMD readers who took part in a new poll say they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and have already received a booster shot or plan to get one soon.

Some readers said there were multiple reasons for not getting a booster shot yet. For instance, about 3% said they haven’t had time to get one and they’re worried about the side effects. Others said they don’t believe the shot is needed and they don’t think it’ll be effective. Overall, most readers said they were confident that the booster shot would work against new variants. Among 1,700 readers who answered the question, 53% said they trust the booster shot will work. About a third of readers said they were “unsure,” and 10% of readers said “no, but I am willing to take my chances.” Fewer than 100 readers said they weren’t confident in the booster shot because the “variants are different from what the vaccine was developed for.
