The 39-year-old Detamore could face up to 20 years in prison with a maximum $250,000 fine if convicted. His court appearance is slated for Aug. 12.

A former West University Place developer, who was the center of an immense search last year, was federally charged with wire fraud on Friday, according to U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani.

Brett Detamore, 39, was previously employed as a custom home builder with Detamore Development LLC. and is a father of three, Hamdani's office said. Many law enforcement agencies participated in the search for Detamore in June 2023 after his wife reported him missing. He was reportedly missing for six days and was found in San Antonio, according to officials. Authorities said he was "a bit fazed and a bit disheveled" after he was located.

Court documents show that Detamore fraudulently used money intended to build private homes to earn at least $1.5 million through fraud for his own use. He allegedly submitted fraudulent and fake bills to banks that held construction loans for single-family homes he had been authorized to build, according to Hamdani's office. He could face up to 20 years in prison with a maximum $250,000 fine if convicted.
