Given that there are some valid questions and concerns about the other two top tackles in this class—Georgia’s Broderick Jones only started 19 games for the Bulldogs and Northwestern’s Peter Skoronski measured in with 32 ¼-inch arms—there’s a very good case that Johnson is the clear-cut OT1 in the 2023 draft class.
There are plenty of teams looking for a young upgrade at one of the game’s most premium positions, and Johnson, if available, would be that guy for just about any needy team. He’s a 6-foot-6, 313-pound monster with 36 ⅛-inch arms and the strength to put up 29 reps on the bench press even with such long arms. Johnson would be a great fit for many teams, but these teams are the four best fits.The Titans have desperately needed consistency at left tackle for a long time.
Tennessee may have signed former Eagles left tackle Andre Dillard during the first wave of free agency, but he wasn’t able to stick as a starter for Philadelphia’s offensive line during his rookie deal. There’s no guarantee that the Dillard signing would take the Titans out of the running for a top left tackle in the class if their guy is on the board at No. 11 overall.
New England would be in a far better position drafting Johnson with the 14th overall pick, sliding Brown back to the right side to replace Isaiah Wynn, and keeping Reiff on the bench as a very solid veteran depth option.The Jets’ offensive line was an absolute mess in 2022. The best player on the line last year was Alijah Vera-Tucker, who played every position on the offensive line but center before suffering a season-ending injury seven games into the season.
Johnson would give the Bears and quarterback Justin Fields an excellent, super-athletic left tackle with a higher ceiling. He’d give the team just what they’re looking for as a great pass protector and someone that’s athletic enough to help out in offensive coordinator Luke Getsy’s wide-zone running scheme.
