We need better data to define the shifting needs of employers so that we can better connect a job seeker to an opportunity aligned with his or her skill set. To do that, we need to improve and expand the existing standard for the data we collect. is a proposal to expand the existing data standard to include important information, like an indication that a job requires a security clearance.
Another important modification breaks down"employment type" into multiple components that would allow a job seeker to search for a job in a more specific way by schedule , type or term .Providing more data on a job gives that job post much more meaning.
You don't need to be a data scientist to appreciate the value of data standards. You need to be a person who is looking for a job and can't find one. Or an employer who is searching for the right skills to fill critical positions. Or an educator trying to make sure what is taught in the classroom is preparing students for today's jobs.
This initiative is not about science; it's about people whose lives can be made better because they have more information and better tools to find opportunity.
