When people think you are strong & resilient
When people think you are strong and resilient, it usually means you are.
But what comes with that is also the belief that you are not at all vulnerable. That you do not have your weak moments. That you do not need support. A helping hand. That you can manage quite well on your own. Well, hey, the truth is, even if we can manage very well on our own, like Barbra Streisand sang, we are “people who need people.” At least from time to time.
So it’s true. I am strong and resilient. I have lived on my own skills and emotional resources for a long time. With credit, of course, to my fabulous husband and a few good friends over the years. But for the most part, I’m the one who is there for others.The truth is that people close to me often fail to see the times I need more than they give.
Think about the people in your life who you know are strong and independent. And also consider that they are human, just like you. And that we all need the quiet hand of another. To have our loved ones ‘be there’ for us.Reach out to them. A call. An email. A card. A pretty basket of spring flowers. Even a visit if safe to do so.
