Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The murderous Joji Obara appears in the true crime Netflix movie Missing: The Lucie Blackman Case. The compelling documentary reviews the troubling disappearance of a 21-year-old young woman named Lucie Blackman. Lucie had been living in Tokyo, Japan, and working as a hostess in a popular bar when she suddenly went missing without notifying her father, her coworkers, or her landlord of her whereabouts.
A number of the best true crime documentaries on Netflix reveal some of the darkest parts of human nature, and Missing: The Lucie Blackman Case is certainly no exception. The new true crime documentary is a stark reminder of how dangerous threats can present themselves in the most unlikely or seemingly safe places since Japan is widely considered a well-mannered and generally protected environment.
Obara was successful in real estate and was quite wealthy, owning several homes and apartments in Japan. He was eventually tracked down by police investigators who noticed an unusual series of purchases that connected him to Lucie's disappearance and murder. Obara had purchased a chainsaw, cement, and a portable tent during the days on which Lucie first went missing.
