Ohio State tight end Cade Stover's injury got an update from Ryan Day.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — As has been the case for a handful of games this season, Ohio State had an offensive skill player available to play, but held him out for precautionary reasons.

Tight end Cade Stover was dressed for the game, went through pregame warmups and even served as one of the team’s captains, but did not play. Stover was seen with a brace on his right knee. “He was available and could’ve played,” coach Ryan Day said. “We just felt like it was the right thing to do for him. You just talk about one of the tougher guys we’ve been around at Ohio State in my time here. He’s going to say he can go. It was a decision made to hold him back. We look forward to getting him back next week.”TreVeyon Henderson, Kyle McCord and Ohio State’s consistent special teams blundersHow Jack Sawyer, J.T. Tuimoloau and the rest of Ohio State’s defense graded vs.

One of the team’s most respected players, Stover has 27 catches for 429 yards and three touchdowns this year. That puts him second on the team in both yards and receptions, as he inches closer to beating his career-best 36 catches and five touchdowns from a season ago. Day said the team should have him back next week against Michigan State, though the priority is clearly having him as ready as possible for the Michigan game on Nov. 25.
