Amazon Prime has found recent success with its two superhero parody series, with Invincible and The Boys being some of the most popular and successful Prime Originals on the platform.
Despite having the powers and appearance of Superman, Homelander's main goal isn't to be a Superman parody. Homelander is instead a parody of nationalistic politicians, jingoism, and fascism, with the superhero aesthetic only being a means by which to explore these authoritarian ideologies.
Invincible's Animation Allows For A Much Bigger World Invincible and The Boys feature two incredibly different mediums, with Invincible's animation allowing the series to have a much bigger world. Mainstream superhero comics are constantly switching locations, showing every nook and cranny of the cosmos of Marvel or DC Comics. Invincible follows suit, with season 1 featuring all kinds of different cities, as well as locations like outer space and other dimensions.
