Here's why Ivan Pace Jr. can make the Vikings' roster as a UDFA. NFLDraft | SKOL
Not every college football prospect has the fortune to hear his name called during the NFL draft, but for those that don’t, their journey isn’t necessarily over. Former Cincinnatihas a great chance to see his football career continue as an undrafted free agent signed by the Minnesota Vikings.
Pace Jr. transferred to Cincinnati from Miami ahead of the 2022 season and never looked back. He had the best season of his collegiate career with the Bearcats, amassing 136 total tackles including 20.5 tackles for a loss and nine sacks, all career highs. Pace Jr. also put up career-best numbers with his four passes defended and two forced fumbles in 2022.
Thanks to the numbers he put up and the season he had, it seemed like the Cincinnati product had cemented himself as a high-upside linebacker prospect. Earning first-team AP All-American status and AAC Defensive Player of the Year honors didn’t hurt either. Pace Jr. only further helped his case with a strong performance at this year’sin Mobile, capped off with winning the all-star event’s Defensive MVP award after the game.
The reason the former Bearcat was so productive in his collegiate career was his exciting blend of skills. Pace Jr. is an instinctual linebacker that is quick to sniff out plays and can combine those instincts with an explosiveness and physicality that never relents over the course of a game. Add in his great tackling and excellent range across the field, and it’s no surprise that Pace Jr. has gotten so much recognition for his playmaking ability.
