Hurricane Center also watching an area in the Gulf of Mexico.
The heart of the Atlantic hurricane season is here, and forecasters are watching three areas for potential development as of Saturday. The area in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to hang around into next week and has a low chance of becoming a depression. The area on the left also has a low probability of becoming a depression next week. But the area in orange could become a depression next week and move into the Caribbean. It's too soon to say if it could affect the U.S.
The disturbances in the Gulf and the one in the central Atlantic will be the ones to watch this weekend and into next week. It will continue to raise the risk of flooding in Louisiana and Texas, and could possibly spawn some rain in southwest Alabama through next week depending on its movement. The hurricane center’s forecast takes the disturbance into the Caribbean and south of Puerto Rico next week.
