The Wildkats learned a year ago that every possession matters, especially late in games.
Willis head coach Jeremy Clark speaks about the upcoming regular season during the Conroe Noon Lions Club’s annual Roundball Roundup with area boys basketball coaches at the Lone Star Convention & Expo Center, Wednesday, Dec. 1 2021, in Conroe. After his first year as head coach of the Willis boys basketball team, Jeremy Clark took some time in the offseason to evaluate and break down the numbers.
What he found is that his 8-26 team that finished in last in District 13-6A came so close in many games. Possessions matter, a layup here and there would have helped, some free throws made could have made things interesting. “As a coach, I want to grow and get better as well,” Clark said. “I went back and looked at a lot of our games and I looked at stats. We lost 13 games by 10 points or less. What we’re really focusing in on this year is watching film and utilizing that time. Grow and put our guys in those situations in practice so it won’t be new to them once the game starts.”“Then our record is totally different from what it was last year,” Clark said.
Willis starts back up this week optimistic in what’s possible. The Wildkats are striving for their first playoff berth in three years and have the experience returning – along with some exciting new pieces to the puzzle – to play into late February.
