Josephine Sever, 55, died in the crash that happened about 1:30 a.m. on Cove Avenue at Clifton Boulevard, according to a news release from Lakewood police. A man, who was driving in an SUV and was involved in the crash, was taken into police custody after the crash. Police say he possibly will face criminal charges.Officers arrived and found a 2021 Mitsubishi Lancer and a 2019 Kia Sportage that had crashed into each other in the intersection, police said.
The Mitsubishi Lancer, driven by Sever was traveling south on Cove Avenue and stopped at the flashing red light at Clifton Boulevard, police said. She attempted to cross over Clifton Boulevard, and was struck by the Kia Sportage, driven by the unidentified man, heading east.The man who was driving the Kia was taken to a local hospital where he is now in police custody.State Highway Patrol is assisting Lakewood police in the crash investigation.
