until MON 10:00 PM PDT, Orange County Inland, Riverside County Mountains, San Bernardino County Mountains, San Bernardino and Riverside County Valleys-The Inland Empire, Santa Ana Mountains and FoothillsA preliminary investigation indicates a car was headed northbound on the freeway when it struck the back of the Long Beach Fire Department ambulance before hitting the center median.
There were two people inside that car. A female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. Right now officials say speed and intoxication appear to be factors in the crash. As a result, the driver of the car has been arrested, authorities said, though they did not say for what charges.
