This Mother’s Day, a new book looks at the relationship between mothers and children, all through the eyes of female artists who are mothers themselves
.In 2020, U.K.-based photographer and filmmaker Karni Arieli would scroll through social media and see artists and photographers who were mothers spending more time at home with their children during the pandemic.She was inspired to launch the online Eye Mama Project, inviting women around the world to submit photographs that document their experience of motherhood, home and family.
Arieli has published a book, “Eye Mama: Poetic Truths of Home and Motherhood’ , featuring 228 images by photographers both well-known and unknown, from over 50 countries."I made the book that I wanted, that I was looking for," she says.The photos can be beautiful, powerful or painful, but all of them portray a mother’s love as seen through her own eyes.They include images of single mothers and same-sex parents, as well as stories of IVF and miscarriages.Mrs.
