The Israel Defense Forces said it was aware of reports of the incident and was conducting “a thorough review at the highest levels.”

Volunteers in a kitchen run by World Central Kitchen prepare food for displaced Palestinians in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, on March 18. World Central Kitchen founder José Andrés said Monday that several of the group’s employees were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza.

The reported strike could mark the first time that foreign national aid workers have been killed in Gaza since the start of the war on Oct. 7, though a record number of Palestinians employed by the United Nations have been killed in the conflict. Canberra was also seeking to confirm reports that an Australian aid worker had been killed in the incident, according to a statement from the country’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.“I served alongside in Ukraine, Gaza, Turkey, Morocco, Bahamas, Indonesia,” Andrés wrote of those killed on Monday. “They are not faceless…they are not nameless.”
