If former President Donald Trump is indicted, there's nothing in the Constitution prohibiting him from running for president. But voters historically turn on candidates with legal challenges.

"We want people to participate in the political system, we want people to have access to the policymaking world regardless of their socio-economic status or their political affiliation," Marsco said.Trump has been in politics and the national spotlight long enough to where voters have already formed a very strong opinion about him, according to Lonna Atkeson.

"Voters aren't dumb. Voters know that, they care about that, they understand what it means to hold public office and the responsibility that comes with that," Marsco said.
