K9s Bek and Wero are joining the law enforcement agency. They're trained in narcotics and explosives detection, along with other functions.
K9 Officer Bek and K9 Officer Wero will work alongside their handlers, Cpl. Cebula and Cpl. Harden . They are trained in tracking, article recovery, area searches and building searches, the sheriff's office said. The teams underwent an intensive in-house six-week training academy before becoming certified as a Law Enforcement K9 Team from the National Association of Professional Canine Handlers and being certified per Pennsylvania Act 60 of 2022.K9 Wero will be succeeding K9 Tommi, and his primary function is narcotics detection. K9 Wero and Cpl. Harden are one of the only K9 teams in the area trained to detect fentanyl along with other narcotics, the sheriff's office said.
