, the case reached an $8.5 million settlement in the Northern District of California, with a vast majority of the settlement going to a collection of internet privacy groups, because the amount allocated for each individual would have been mere pennies. But the case was brought all the way up to the Supreme Court after, a conservative activist and vocal class action suit critic, disputed the settlement being sent to those nonprofit groups instead of the users affected by the suit.
To apply for a claim, users will have to register for an account on the settlement website and confirm that they did, in fact, click on a Google Search link in the timeframe specified. The last day to file a claim — or, alternatively, exclude yourself or file an objection — is July 31. It’s not a significant amount — participants are estimated to receive $7.70 each, as the settlement after attorney fees is distributed evenly among all individuals who filed a claim.
