In voting so far, Alexander City is in second place for Best Small Southern Town, trailing Maysville, Ky. Alexander City, located about 50 miles north of Montgomery, is the hub of the Lake Martin area in east-central Alabama and adjacent to Wind Creek State Park, one of the most popular in the Alabama parks. It has a population of 14,843, according to the U.S. Census, and is located in Tallapoosa County.

Rounding out the top 10 is West Monroe, La., at No. 3, followed by Abingdon, Va., and Pauls Valley, Okla.
