DANIEL SLIM/AFP, HO / TNSRe: “Supreme Court backs Ted Cruz in case on campaign finance,” Metro, Tuesday:
A 6-3 decision that a federal election law “burdens core political speech without proper justification” is a win for “conservatives seeking to chip away at campaign spending limits under the First Amendment.” The article states, “The liberal judges argued in a dissenting opinion that the two-decade-old rule serves as a check on ‘crooked exchanges … and may well push for ‘favorable legislation’ ‘prized appointments ’ or ‘lucrative contracts’ for those donors.”
Six conservative judges interpreted the Constitution. Three liberal judges did not reference the Constitution but were legislating from the bench, which is a congressional responsibility. Analyze future, or even past rulings, along these lines.Cruz prefers hateThis does not shock the senses anymore. These pronouncements keep Sen. Ted Cruz in the news as he probably contemplates running in the 2024 Republican presidential primary.
Instead of hearing Cruz’s mean-spirited and racist statements, Texans might want to hear the senator’s ideas on slowing inflation, improving supply chain issues and helping mothers find baby formula. But this kind of leadership requires thought and analysis, and Cruz would rather spew hate.
