Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Zachary Levi’s new movie, Harold and the Purple Crayon, is weirdly similar to a popular SpongeBob SquarePants episode that aired 22 years ago. Directed by Carlos Saldanha, Harold and the Purple Crayon is based on the 1955 children’s book of the same name by Crockett Johnson, but with a couple of twists to modernize it.
The magic of Harold’s purple crayon is very similar to the SpongeBob SquarePants episode “Frankendoodle”. In it, an artist in a rowboat in the middle of the ocean is working on a sketch when his pencil slips and falls into the sea. The pencil lands right between SpongeBob and Patrick and, after the initial shock, they start to doodle with it on the sand. SpongeBob and Patrick quickly learn that whatever they draw is brought to life, deducing that it’s a “magic pencil”.
