Snow will be falling at times at 1 inch an hour across the Chicago area making it very difficult for road crews to keep up.

As of this writing, snowfall is increasing in coverage and intensity and will likely be worse during the morning commute. Chicago-area commuters are being tested this morning by a blitz of heavy snowfall and icy roads. While it won’t be a blizzard, there will also be just enough wind to blow some of this stuff around.
By tonight, the heart of the Metro will have picked up 6 to 10 inches with the possibility of some foot-plus totals over the southern half of our viewing area. This is especially the case well south of I-80 toward the K3 River Valley. Illinois State Police Sgt. Glen Fifield provides us with an update on the status of roads in Northwest Indiana during one of the region's biggest snowstorms of the season.
