A rematch of the same game four years ago, San Francisco seeks revenge in a Sin City showdown
Super Bowl LVIII, featuring a pair of powerhouses in the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs, promises to be a high-energy showdown Sunday in Sin City.
Who will have the edge in Las Vegas? Let’s take a key look at some key areas on both sides of the ball. In the playoffs, the Niners accumulated 384.5 total yards, 133 rushing yards and 251.5 passing yards per game, all down slightly from the regular season but still ahead of the Chiefs. After lighting up scoreboards to the tune of 28.9 points per game in the regular season, San Francisco is averaging 29 this postseason.
Purdy, the 49ers’ dark horse, hasn’t quite been his regular-season self. His passer rating has fallen from a league-leading 113 in the regular season to 87.7 in the playoffs. His completion percentage has also dipped to just 61.4%. Kittle, 30, has been nothing short of spectacular this year. Over 16 regular-season games, Kittle secured 65 catches on 90 targets, racking up 1,020 yards and six touchdowns. The Associated Press named Kittle to the All-Pro first team for the second time in his career.
CPUC judge rebukes Cruise for omissions about accident At a hearing Tuesday, an administrative judge criticized officials at the autonomous vehicle company for failing to admit its car hit a woman. Kelce, with his postseason surge, has been indispensable to the Chiefs offense, providing critical plays and reliability. But Kittle, with his ability to stretch the field, is just as big a game-changer for the 49ers.
Conversely, the Chiefs' receivers largely play second fiddle to Kelce. Rashee Rice, who put up 938 receiving yards in the regular season, has been a solid No. 2 receiving target for Mahomes. The 2023 second-round draft pick has proved his value in the playoffs, catching 20 of 25 targets for 223 yards and one touchdown.
Kansas City has Isiah Pacheco, or “Pop,” who bulldozed his way to 935 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns in the regular season, with what's been dubbed an “angry” running style. He has racked up 254 rushing yards in three playoff games, underscoring his consistency. His 84.7 rushing yards per playoff game are 9.3 fewer than McCaffrey’s, but the 49ers defense will have its hands full trying to stop Pacheco.
