Why U.S. Call Me Kat is worse than U.K Miranda.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT When British series get American reboots, the results can most certainly be mixed, and unfortunately when it comes to FOX's Call Me Kat, audiences were more disappointed than satisfied. Call Me Kat is the Americanized version of the hit U.K. sitcom, Miranda, which follows a socially awkward woman, played by Miranda Hart, who runs a joke shop and is constantly berated by her mother.

8 Call Me Kat Feels Too Gimmicky First and foremost, Call Me Kat has an overtly gimmicky feel. While Miranda has a bit and sticks to it, Call Me Kat suffers from being too distanced from its jokes. The main example of this is the series' fourth wall breaks. Miranda's use of the fourth wall break was funny because of how unexpected and confessional it was, letting audiences observe Miranda's thoughts before being thrown back into the ongoing story.

6 Call Me Kat Misuses Its Fourth Wall Breaks Ultimately, Miranda's iconic fourth wall breaks are what gave Call Me Kat many of its negative reviews. As previously mentioned, Call Me Kat's use of the fourth wall break seems more gimmicky than Miranda, but worse than that, the American series generally misuses the trick. First and foremost, Call Me Kat overused the fourth wall break. At times, Kat talked to the audience nearly as much as to her peers, and this hurt more than it helped.

4 Call Me Kat Plays It Too Safe One aspect of Miranda that made it stand out to viewers was its risk-taking and sex jokes. Though not necessarily raunchy, Miranda definitely had its more adult moments, which made it more enjoyable and eccentric. However, in the end, Call Me Kat didn't even attempt to replicate this. The American version forewent any sexual jokes, and worse, played everything incredibly safe.
