Amazon is getting into the luxury goods industry. WSJheard explains why the company may have a hard time getting important brands to sign up. WSJWhatsNow

His Seattle-based company will launch a new platform for luxury brands this year, according to fashion-trade journal Women’s Wear Daily. The site will initially operate in the U.S.

and be based on a concession model. Designer fashion labels will get control of the look and pricing of goods on their own online store in return for a cut of sales. Amazon wouldn’t comment on or confirm the plans.
