I don’t think America is suffering from moral degradation. I believe how Americans practice religion has changed. They don’t go to church, but they do meditate. They don’t go to church socials, but they do go to yoga classes and do mindful meditation in groups. Americans have moved from Saturday and Sunday religious congregational devotion to spirituality.

The rise of spirituality correlates with the rise of individualism as a predominant American value. The corporate practice of congregating in a church, synagogue, or temple has given way to a person’s solitary act of meditating or practicing mindfulness.
