Though the Cavs have been busy adding shooters in free agency, Cleveland kept one of its own, agreeing to a two-year deal with Caris LeVert.
Getting a new deal done with LeVert -- preferably a team-friendly one given their top-heavy roster and other salary limitations -- was the Cavs’ top priority heading into free agency.
Adding Strus would punctuate the organization’s busy -- and productive -- free agency splurge. And it’s only the first night. Acquired midway through the 2022 season in a deadline deal for Ricky Rubio and a future first-round pick, the 28-year-old LeVert averaged 12.1 points, 3.9 assists and 3.8 rebounds as a key rotational piece in his first full season with the Cavs. Bouncing between starter and reserve while also trying to adjust to a variety of different roles, LeVert shot 43% from the field and a career-best 39% on 3-pointers, becoming one of coach J.B. Bickerstaff’s most trusted players.
